Self-billing for affiliate & influencer marketing

Affiliate networks and brands track every commission themselves — so self-billing lets you invoice each affiliate, publisher or influencer for what they’ve earned, with the correct VAT.

Why self-billing works for affiliate & influencer marketing

How it works

Under a self-billing agreement with each affiliate, you prepare the commission invoice from your tracking data, apply VAT where due, send a copy and pay. The affiliate doesn’t raise their own invoice.

VAT & compliance

Standard UK VAT rules apply — add the affiliate’s VAT where they are VAT-registered, and none where they are not. Many individual affiliates and influencers are not VAT-registered; Apex Billing records each one’s status so VAT is only added when due.

This is general information, not tax advice — confirm your own position with your accountant or HMRC.

How Apex Billing helps

Affiliate & influencer — self-billing FAQs

Can I self-bill affiliates who aren’t VAT-registered?

Yes. Where an affiliate isn’t VAT-registered, no VAT is added — Apex Billing applies VAT only where you’ve recorded them as registered.

Can I run a whole commission period at once?

Yes. Import the period’s commissions as a CSV to bulk-create the self-billed invoices, then review and send.
